As such, event organizers are taking advantage of the situation and putting on events everywhere possible. After doing my research, I think the following events are worth a look and see:

http://events.sys-con.com/ (multiple events - North America and Europe)

http://cloudcomputingexpo.com/ (November 2-4 2009, Santa Clara, CA)

http://www.interop.com/ (multiple events - North America and Asia)

http://cloudsummit.com/ (November 16-20 2009, Las Vegas, NV)

http://www.ipexpo.co.uk/ (October 7-8 2009, Earl's Court London, UK)

http://www.it360.ca/ (April 7 2010, Toronto, Canada)

If you know of any cool cloud events happening in your region, please let me know.

Next week you’ll see many familiar Canonical faces at OSCON 2009 in San Francisco. A great number of the presentations at the event will be given by members of the Canonical team – many of them will be cloud related. I think the talks by my colleagues Simon Wardley, Nicolas Barcet, Ken Drachnik, Soren Hansen and Rick Clark will give you a good idea of the depth and commitment Canonical is making to cloud computing. If you are in the Bay area, please drop on by and hear my colleagues talk at one of the sessions. Here’s a link describing the Ubuntu sessions taking place at OSCON http://en.oreilly.com/oscon2009/public/schedule/topic/325/

I attended CloudCamp London #4 yesterday night. Yesterday’s event had over 200 attendees. Once again, the event was to capacity with many people on the waiting list. Representatives from Canonical, Rabbit Technologies, CohesiveFT, RightScale, Cisco, Cloudsoft, Microsoft and Zeus, to name a few were in attendance – representing the experts in the field. Canonical’s Simon Wardley and Nick Barcet both gave excellent presentations on Ubuntu Cloud Computing and answered numerous questions on discussion panels. In my opinion, the questions asked this time around (versus those at the last CloudCamp), showed the audience is really starting to understand the cloud. Security in the cloud, cloud portability, software licensing, government clouds, etc. were topics that people had questions about. The informal setting of the event made for good discussion.

The four hours I spent at CloudCamp certainly helped me understand the cloud better. There are a number of CloudCamps around the world. For those interested, here’s the website with the dates and location http://www.cloudcamp.com/

It’s time for another CloudCamp in London. I’m really excited to be going to the event this evening to find out what is happening with the cloud since Canonical announced Ubuntu Cloud Computing last April. It is going to be interesting to hear how enterprises have been deploying the cloud and to hear first hand from people how they are benefiting from a cloud implementation. As well, the experts in the field will be discussing with hundreds of people what’s new and planned for the cloud. My colleagues Nicolas Barcet and Simon Wardley will be presenting tonight the new developments at Canonical and providing their thoughts on the future of the cloud – so I’m sure they will be providing food for thought. I think it should be a good evening for all. Hope to see you there.

There is a lot of talk about the cloud these days. There are so many articles and opinions about it. Whether you are an IT person looking to see if the cloud is technically right for your company, a business person trying to find ways to cut costs or just an enthusiast trying to learn more about the cloud; you’ll probably have lots of questions. If you are anything like me, you want to have a face-to-face talk with someone who can answer your specific questions.

Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to find events that will allow me to talk to the right cloud experts, without paying any registration fees. I found the CloudCamp! The CloudCamp is a conference where people gather together to exchange ideas. The agenda is set by the people that attend, so you are welcomed and encouraged to ask the questions you want! In the CloudCamp that I attended, I saw people with virtually no technical background exchange experiences and challenges in an open discussion environment with people that are technical experts in the cloud field. Really cool!

The CloudCamps are held throughout the world. So you can find one that is close to you at http://www.cloudcamp.com/. As I am based in London, I’m going to be going to the one on the 9th of July to see my colleague, Simon Wardley and others tell me more about the cloud and ask them a few more questions.
